Frequently Asked Questions
Find direct answers to commonly asked questions about our process, safety procedures, and product care.
Q1. How much ash is needed for a glass memorial?
We only require a very small amount: 1/2 teaspoon of cremation ash for a pendant, and 1 teaspoon of ash for solid glass orbs or stars. Any unused ash is respectfully gathered and returned with your finished piece.
Q2. How do I ship the cremation ashes safely?
By federal law, cremains must be sent via USPS Priority Mail Express. Pack the ashes double-bagged in sealable plastic bags, label all sides of your shipping box with USPS Label 139 (bright orange 'Cremated Remains' label), and send it with 'Signature Required' to our Girdwood, Alaska studio.
Q3. How do you ensure ashes are not mixed up?
We operate a strict, absolute tracking system. Only one customer's memorial is crafted at the furnace at any given time. Each container of ash is labeled with an order ID, and we maintain a clean-room protocol with zero cross-contamination risk.
Q4. What colors do the ashes turn when fused in glass?
When exposed to the extreme heat (2,100°F) of molten glass, the carbon burns away, leaving behind the minerals. The ashes form delicate, swirled white or light-grey cloud-like formations, resembling stars or galaxies suspended inside the glass.
Q5. Are the cremation crystals durable?
Yes. All our memorial art is made using high-quality borosilicate glass, which is far stronger and more thermal-shock resistant than standard soda-lime window glass. Each piece is slowly cooled in an annealing kiln to eliminate internal stress, making it highly durable.
Q6. Can you make memorials for pet ashes?
Absolutely. We craft pet memorials with the same respect, love, and strict tracking guidelines as human memorials. Pet ashes react exactly the same way inside molten glass.
